Missionary Training is Critical
if you want longevity in your missions career. Here’s a typical path of a missionary without missionary training.
- I went on a one week trip and I feel God is calling me to be a missionary!
- I’ve started selling my stuff and telling people I’m going to be a missionary.
- My church is cautiously excited for me! They are praying for me and sending me out.
- Amazing! About 6 months ago I was going on my first mission trip and now I live in the place I visited!
- Uhh I don’t really speak the language. No worries, I’ve met some other missionaries and they invited me to church.
- Hmm, I know I’m supposed to be doing ministry but I’m not really sure what that means yet.
- Hey I found out about a need! I’ll do that in Jesus name.
- What?! A second need! It’s not related to the first need but I’ll still do it because Jesus.
- Wow a third need has popped up and it’s not related to either of the first two. Is this what ministry is supposed to be?
- My money is running low but I hate asking people so I’ll just trust in God.
- It’s been a few months now. I wish I could communicate better. I stopped going to church because I couldn’t understand what the pastor was saying.
- There are sooo many needs. And I’m out of money. And I’m lonely and have no friends. I miss my family. This culture has too many weird things. I think God is calling me back home.
- Whelp! That was an exciting 18 months (or less) glad I’m back in US!
Our hearts break when we see this happening. Here’s a hard reality – missions is difficult in the best of circumstances. When you jump into a new job with absolutely no training it becomes nearly impossible. Our goal is to give you tools to be able to be successful for years to come. Our six week missionary training includes topics like;
- Fundraising
- Project Deployment
- Cultural Adaptation
- Language Learning
- Communication
- Social Media
- Donor Care
- Life Balance
Our training is held in Nicaragua and includes elements of regular ministry as well. Our classes are small and you learn directly from the founders who have 10 years of experience on the field.
